ואתחתן שלמה בפרעה מלכא דמצרים ודבר ית בת פרעה ואיתה לקרתא דדוד עד דשיצי למבני ית ביתיה וית בית מקדשא דיי וית שורא דירושלם סחור סחור:
skhwr skhwr dyrwshlm shwra wyth dyy mqdsha byth wyth bythyh yth lmbny dshytsy ed ddwd lqrtha waythh preh bth yth wdbr dmtsrym mlka bpreh shlmh wathkhthn
Solomon made a marriage alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt. He took Pharaoh’s daughter and brought her into David’s city until he had finished building his own house, Yahweh’s house, and the wall around Jerusalem.

לחוד עמא מדבחין על במותא ארי לא אתבני ביתא לשמא דיי עד יומיא האינון:
haynwn ywmya ed dyy lshma bytha athbny la ary bmwtha el mdbkhyn ema lkhwd
However, the people sacrificed in the high places, because there was not yet a house built for Yahweh’s name.

ורחים שלמה ית פולחנא דיי למיזל בגזרת דוד אבוהי לחוד על במותא הוא מדבח ומסיק בוסמין:
bwsmyn wmsyq mdbkh hwa bmwtha el lkhwd abwhy dwd bgzrth lmyzl dyy pwlkhna yth shlmh wrkhym
Solomon loved Yahweh, walking in the statutes of David his father, except that he sacrificed and burned incense in the high places.

ואזל מלכא לגבעון לדבחא תמן ארי היא במתא רבתא אלף עלון יסיק שלמה על מדבחא ההוא:
hhwa mdbkha el shlmh ysyq elwn alp rbtha bmtha hya ary thmn ldbkha lgbewn mlka wazl
The king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.

בגבעון אתגלי יי לשלמה בחלמא דליליא ואמר ליה יי שאיל מה אתן לך:
lk athn mh shayl yy lyh wamr dlylya bkhlma lshlmh yy athgly bgbewn
In Gibeon, Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.”

ואמר שלמה את עבדת עם עבדך דוד אבא חסדא רבא כמא דהליך קדמך בקושטא ובזכו ובחריצות לבא קדמך ונטרת ליה ית חסדא רבא הדין ויהבת ליה בר יתיב על כורסיה כיומא הדין:
hdyn kywma kwrsyh el ythyb br lyh wyhbth hdyn rba khsda yth lyh wnTrth qdmk lba wbkhrytswth wbzkw bqwshTa qdmk dhlyk kma rba khsda aba dwd ebdk em ebdth ath shlmh wamr
Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today.

וכען יי אלהי את אמליכתא ית עבדך תחות דוד אבא ואנא יניק זעיר לית אנא ידע למפק ולמיעל:
wlmyel lmpq yde ana lyth zeyr ynyq wana aba dwd thkhwth ebdk yth amlyktha ath alhy yy wken
Now, Yahweh my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am just a little child. I don’t know how to go out or come in.

ועבדך בגו עמך דאתרעיתא עם סגי דלא יתחשבון ולא יתמנון מסגי:
msgy ythmnwn wla ythkhshbwn dla sgy em dathreytha emk bgw webdk
Your servant is among your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can’t be numbered or counted for multitude.

ותתן לעבדך לב סבר למידן ית עמך למסבר בין טב לביש ארי מן יכול למידן ית עמך סגיאה הדין:
hdyn sgyah emk yth lmydn ykwl mn ary lbysh Tb byn lmsbr emk yth lmydn sbr lb lebdk wththn
Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?”

ושפר פתגמא קדם יי ארי שאל שלמה ית פתגמא הדין:
hdyn pthgma yth shlmh shal ary yy qdm pthgma wshpr
This request pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

ואמר יי ליה חלף דשאלתא ית פתגמא הדין ולא שאלתא לך יומין סגיאין ולא שאלתא לך עתרא ולא שאלתא נפש בעלי דבבך ושאלתא לך סברותא למשמע דינא:
dyna lmshme sbrwtha lk wshaltha dbbk bely npsh shaltha wla ethra lk shaltha wla sgyayn ywmyn lk shaltha wla hdyn pthgma yth dshaltha khlp lyh yy wamr
God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have you asked for riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice,

הא עבדית כפתגמך הא יהבית לך לב חכים וסוכלתן דכותך לא הוה קדמך ובתרך לא יקום כותך:
kwthk yqwm la wbthrk qdmk hwh la dkwthk wswklthn khkym lb lk yhbyth ha kpthgmk ebdyth ha
behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, and after you none will arise like you.

ואף דלא שאלתא יהבית לך אף עתרא אף יקרא דלא הוה כותך גבר במלכיא כל יומך:
ywmk kl bmlkya gbr kwthk hwh dla yqra ap ethra ap lk yhbyth shaltha dla wap
I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you for all your days.

ואם תהך באורחן דתקנן קדמי למטר קימי ופקודי כמא דהליך דוד אבוך ואוריך ית יומך:
ywmk yth wawryk abwk dwd dhlyk kma wpqwdy qymy lmTr qdmy dthqnn bawrkhn thhk wam
If you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”

ואתער שלמה והא חלמא ואתא לירושלם וקם קדם ארונא קימא דיי ואסיק עלון ונכיס נכסת קודשין ועבד משתיא לכל עבדוהי:
ebdwhy lkl mshthya webd qwdshyn nksth wnkys elwn wasyq dyy qyma arwna qdm wqm lyrwshlm watha khlma wha shlmh wather
Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream. Then he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, and offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.

בכן אתאה תרתין נשין פונדקן למידן קדם מלכא וקמא קדמוהי:
qdmwhy wqma mlka qdm lmydn pwndqn nshyn thrthyn athah bkn
Then two women who were prostitutes came to the king, and stood before him.

ואמרת אתתא חדא בבעו רבוני אנא ואתתא הדא יתבן בביתא חדא וילידת עמה בביתא:
bbytha emh wylydth khda bbytha ythbn hda waththa ana rbwny bbew khda aththa wamrth
The one woman said, “Oh, my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house. I delivered a child with her in the house.

והוה ביומא תליתאה למילדי וילידת אף אתתא הדא ואנחנא כחדא זכאין לית נוכרא עמנא בביתא אלהין תרתין אנחנא בביתא:
bbytha ankhna thrthyn alhyn bbytha emna nwkra lyth zkayn kkhda wankhna hda aththa ap wylydth lmyldy thlythah bywma whwh
The third day after I delivered, this woman delivered also. We were together. There was no stranger with us in the house, just us two in the house.

ומית בר אתתא הדא בליליא דשכיבת עלוהי:
elwhy dshkybth blylya hda aththa br wmyth
This woman’s child died in the night, because she lay on it.
20
וקמת בגו לילא ונסיבת ית ברי מלותי ואמתך דמכא ואשכיבתיה לותה וית ברה מיתא אשכיבת לותי:
lwthy ashkybth mytha brh wyth lwthh washkybthyh dmka wamthk mlwthy bry yth wnsybth lyla bgw wqmth
She arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me while your servant slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.

ואקימת בצפרא לאונקא ית ברי והא מית ואסתכלית ביה בצפרא והא לא הוה ברי דילידית:
dylydyth bry hwh la wha btspra byh wasthklyth myth wha bry yth lawnqa btspra waqymth
When I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, he was dead; but when I had looked at him in the morning, behold, it was not my son whom I bore.”

ואמרת אתתא אוחרנתא לא כן ברי חיא ובריך מיתא ודא לדא אמרא לא כן בריך מיתא וברי חיא ודינן קדם מלכא:
mlka qdm wdynn khya wbry mytha bryk kn la amra lda wda mytha wbryk khya bry kn la awkhrntha aththa wamrth
The other woman said, “No! But the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son.” The first one said, “No! But the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son.” They argued like this before the king.

ואמר מלכא דא אמרא דין ברי חיא ובריך מיתא ודא אמרא לא כן בריך מיתא וברי חיא:
khya wbry mytha bryk kn la amra wda mytha wbryk khya bry dyn amra da mlka wamr
Then the king said, “One says, ‘This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead one;’ and the other says, ‘No! But your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.’”

ואמר מלכא איתו לי חרבא ואיתיאו חרבא לקדם מלכא:
mlka lqdm khrba waythyaw khrba ly aythw mlka wamr
The king said, “Get me a sword.” So they brought a sword before the king.
25
ואמר מלכא פסוקו ית רביא חיא לתרין גזרין והבו פלגא לחדא ופלגא לחדא:
lkhda wplga lkhda plga whbw gzryn lthryn khya rbya yth pswqw mlka wamr
The king said, “Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.”

ואמרת אתתא די ברה חיא למלכא ארי אתגללו רחמהא על ברה ואמרת בבעו רבוני הבו לה ית רביא חיא ומקטל לא תקטלוניה ודא אמרא אף דלי אף דילך לא יהי פסוקו:
pswqw yhy la dylk ap dly ap amra wda thqTlwnyh la wmqTl khya rbya yth lh hbw rbwny bbew wamrth brh el rkhmha athgllw ary lmlka khya brh dy aththa wamrth
Then the woman whose the living child was spoke to the king, for her heart yearned over her son, and she said, “Oh, my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill him!” But the other said, “He shall be neither mine nor yours. Divide him.”

ואתיב מלכא ואמר הבו לה ית רביא חיא ומקטל לא תקטלוניה היא אמיה:
amyh hya thqTlwnyh la wmqTl khya rbya yth lh hbw wamr mlka wathyb
Then the king answered, “Give the first woman the living child, and definitely do not kill him. She is his mother.”

ושמעו כל ישראל ית דינא דדן מלכא ודחילו מן קדם מלכא ארי חזו ארי חוכמתא מן קדם יי במעוהי למעבד דינא:
dyna lmebd bmewhy yy qdm mn khwkmtha ary khzw ary mlka qdm mn wdkhylw mlka ddn dyna yth yshral kl wshmew
All Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do justice.
